The inaugural board meeting of the Women’s Chamber for Digital, Sri Lanka (WCDSL) was held on the 16th April 2019 at the Ministry of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology (MDIIT). WCDSL, an initiative proposed by the minister, will be the driving force of the government’s policy on women empowerment while driving and influencing Sri Lanka’s economy by fair and equal participation of women in the digital economy. The chamber will accomplish the above via three wings: Education, Corporate and Technopreneurship. WCDSL will run its own projects and will support stakeholders financially and/or through in-kind contributions. Furthermore, WCDSL will have the full authority to partner with any entity for all proposed projects with the approval of the board of directors. The chamber secretariat will be based within the Ministry of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology but will run as a separate legal entity.
The Honourable Minister of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology, Mr. Ajith P. Perera, the board members proposed by the minister, and the organisers from the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) were present for this meeting. Jayomi Lokuliyana was appointed as the chairperson, Thushara Wijewardena was appointed as the vice chairperson and Thusha Mukunthan was appointed as the secretary of the board. The board of directors of the chamber will actively contribute to conceptualize and design the road map of the chamber and head the wings, while the secretariat in partnership with the relevant steering committees will actively engage with the industry and other relevant associations/communities to implement the designed initiatives. The advisory committee, wing leaders and their steering committees will be formed subsequently.
