"The tagline of the e Sri Lanka program of 2003-08 was “Smart Island, Smart People.” This recognized the critical importance of people in Sri Lanka’s ICT journey. Today, as we look toward the future and the positioning of Sri Lanka as a knowledge-based, highly competitive, social-market economy that capitalizes on our location in the Indian Ocean, we have to again underline the importance of people. To meet the targets for the IT and IT enabled Services by the National Export Strategy, we need "smart people." To realize even bigger goals, for example to mobilize the potential of Artificial Intelligence, we need “smart people.”People does not mean men only. In a country where women outnumber men, it should be self-evident that no major enterprise or initiative can succeed without the fullest participation of women. The Women’s Chamber for Digital will serve as a focal point of efforts to mobilize the brains and energy of the women of Sri Lanka as we strive to make our country a better place to live and work in. I wish them well. We need their help."
